Self-coating in a swine barn
Coatings play a crucial role in the protection and improvement of swine barns. These special finishes offer numerous benefits that not only extend the life of the barn, but also improve the health and welfare of the pigs.
Pig houses are subject to a range of challenges, from constant exposure to moisture and chemicals to the constant presence of urine and feces. However, the use of coatings in swine barns offers significant advantages. First, a good coating ensures that the surface of the barn is waterproof, preventing the penetration of moisture and the entry of bacteria and mold. This reduces the risk of disease and infection in pigs, resulting in a healthier herd and lower veterinary costs.
In addition, coatings in pig houses provide a smooth and easy-to-clean surface. The coating forms a barrier between the concrete substrate and the pigs' urine and feces. This makes cleaning the barn much easier and more efficient. In addition, the smooth finish of the coating prevents the accumulation of dirt and bacteria, improving hygiene in the barn.
Finally, coatings significantly extend the life of the pig house. They provide a protective layer against wear and tear, chemical corrosion and other forms of damage. This reduces the need for frequent repairs and maintenance, which is cost-saving for the pig farmer in the long run.
All in all, coatings in swine barns offer numerous benefits, including improved hygiene, healthier animals, better air quality and extended barn life. By investing in quality coatings, pig farmers can create a more efficient and sustainable environment for their animals, resulting in increased productivity and profitability.

Are you interested in applying a feed alley coating, but still have questions? We would be happy to come by and personally advise you on which coating system is most suitable and how to apply it. Request a no-obligation site visit now.
How long does it take to apply a coating in a pig pen?
Farmcoat is a two-layer floor coating consisting of a primer and a coating. 4 hours after applying the primer, the coating can be applied. So you can be finished coating within 1 day. However, keep in mind that you need to clean the surface well the day before so that it can dry properly before you start coating. After applying the coating, it must dry/harden for 12 hours. So keep in mind that you cannot use the feed alley for at least a day and a half.
What colors is the coating available in?
Our coatings are offered as standard transparent or in RAL 7001 (gray). On request and starting from a minimum total order of 50 kilos, you can choose any RAL or NCS color.
Does the coating contain anti-slip?
The coating provides a non-slip yet smooth finish. If you need an extra anti-slip, or even a very coarse anti-slip (walking surface of cattle) we can offer this on a custom basis.
How thick is the coating to apply?
You can apply the coating in very thick layers. Assume up to 2 kilos per square meter. For very worn substrates, it has a leveling effect.
Is it easy to apply yourself?
Farmcoat has been developed in such a way that it is still easy to apply by laymen/inexperienced people. With every order we supply as standard a detailed manual which clearly describes in steps how to apply the coating.
