How do you apply an epoxy floor coating to a concrete floor yourself?
Easy to apply in 1 day
Farmcoat Epoxy Floor Coating is very easy to apply yourself in 1 day. Here we explain how you can easily apply an epoxy floor coating to a concrete floor in your stable, tank room, feed alley or garage floor.
Supplies
- Clean tap water, preferably a high-pressure cleaner
- Concrete grinder or concrete grinder
- Farmcoat application kit; consisting of a watering can with spray head, mixing tool (for on a drill), brushes, rollers, telescopic handle, tape and Farmcoat ADP Cleaner)
- Farmcoat Epoxy Floor Coating
1. Pretreatment
The preparation process is of utmost importance for a good final result. Grease, dirt
(feed residue/dung) and other contaminants should be completely removed from
the substrate. Use high pressure if necessary.
2. Sand
Sand the surface with a concrete grinder or concrete sanding machine. This ensures long-term adhesion. For heavily worn surfaces, sanding also ensures that irregularities are smoothed, brittle/loose pieces are removed and you ultimately need less coating. Sanding is therefore also cost-saving! New trowelled floors should also be sanded. These are trowelled so smoothly/densely that the coating cannot adhere to them properly. New concrete surfaces that have not been trowelled and already have a rough surface do not need to be sanded (as in the instruction video on this page). Rinse the floor again after sanding to remove all dust.
3. Cleaning
Apply the Farmcoat ADP Cleaner diluted with water (1 to 10) to the floor using the watering can with spray head. Brush this in and let it work on the floor for a maximum of 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, spray the surface clean with tap water. The ADP Cleaner is an acidic cleaner that ensures that all miniscule dirt (that is not visible to the eye) dissolves. In addition, the ADP Cleaner ensures that the pores of the concrete open up. This makes the coating adhere even better!
4. Coating
Make sure the surface is completely dry before coating. You can do this by letting it dry overnight or by forcing it with a blowtorch. Tape the surface where necessary for a good separation line (relevant for feed alleys).
Mix Farmcoat Epoxy Floor Coating before use by adding the B-component (hardener) to the A-component and mixing thoroughly with the supplied mixing tool on a drill for 2 minutes. Also mix well along the edges and over the bottom of the tin.
5. Drying
After 12 hours of drying, you can resume using the floor.
